Police in Birmingham have launched a major crackdown on untaxed vehicles, towing away six cars and vans from a single residential street in a stark warning to motorists.
Operation Sees Multiple Vehicles Removed
Officers from the Springfield and Sparkhill neighbourhood teams conducted a targeted vehicle seizure operation this week. The action focused on Formans Road in the Sparkhill area of the city.
During the operation, a total of six vehicles were seized and towed away for having no valid road tax. Police shared images of the confiscated cars and vans on social media to highlight their zero-tolerance approach.
One Vehicle Untaxed for Seven Years
Among the vehicles removed was one car that had not been taxed for an astonishing seven years, with its last valid tax disc dating back to 2018. This case underscored the severity of the issue officers are tackling.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Springfield and Sparkhill Police stated: "Sparkhill ~ VEHICLE SEIZURE OPERATION! We have kick started our week with seizing 6 vehicles for no tax on Forman's Road... This vehicle was last taxed in 2018. Seized."
Police Vow to 'Change the Scope' of Enforcement
The police force issued a clear warning to all drivers, emphasising that this is not a one-off event. They vowed to be "changing the scope" around the problem of untaxed vehicles on the region's roads.
In a follow-up message, they added: "Seized 1 of 6, that was seized today. We are committed in changing the scope around vehicles being untaxed. Tax your vehicle."
The operation, which took place as December began, signals a renewed and intensified focus on this aspect of road traffic law. Drivers across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands are now being urged to check their vehicle's tax status immediately to avoid similar action.
