Passengers flying with EasyJet, Jet2, British Airways and Ryanair have been advised to avoid packing three specific items in their hand luggage to save space and avoid unexpected fees. With airlines increasingly cracking down on carry-on baggage, even minor packing errors can prove costly.
Why Packing Light Matters
Many budget-conscious travellers opt for hand luggage only to keep fares low. However, the convenience of travelling light comes with rigid restrictions. Matthew Corrigan, CEO of Trtl Travel, warned that airlines such as Ryanair, British Airways, EasyJet and Jet2 are intensifying scrutiny of hand luggage. Overpacking or including inappropriate items could lead to additional charges at the airport.
Three Items to Avoid
Hairdryers
Hairdryers are bulky and awkwardly shaped, taking up valuable space. Most hotels and holiday rentals provide them as standard, so packing your own is rarely necessary.
Towels
Towels are another bulky item best left at home. Most mainstream accommodation now supplies towels, making it unnecessary to bring your own.
Toiletries
Toiletries add unnecessary weight and larger liquid containers can cause problems at security. Travel-sized products or buying toiletries upon arrival are smarter alternatives.
Additional Tips
For colder destinations, wear bulky garments like coats and jumpers onto the plane rather than packing them. This frees up space and keeps you warm during the flight. Only bring items you know you will use, and share phone chargers and other technology where possible.
By packing more intelligently, passengers can avoid fees and enjoy a smoother travel experience.
