Emergency services were called to William Booth Lane, off Old Snow Hill, at around 8:40am on Tuesday, June 23, after a body was discovered in the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal. West Midlands Police confirmed that a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Investigation Underway
A police cordon was established along part of the towpath, and several dumpster bins outside Snow Hill Wharf were also taped off as officers conducted their inquiries. A police spokeswoman stated: "A scene is currently in place after a man’s body was found in the canal on William Booth Lane, Birmingham, at 8.40am this morning (23 June). Sadly, the man was confirmed dead at the scene. The death is currently being treated as unexplained, and our investigation is in its early stages as our enquiries continue."
Appeal for Information
West Midlands Police have urged anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 980 of 23 June. The West Midlands Fire Service also attended the police-led incident. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected as inquiries progress.
