Nottingham Express Transit (NET) has implemented significant timetable adjustments, marking the conclusion of a trial period for its extended evening schedule. The changes, effective from Monday, January 26, see the tram network revert to its standard operating pattern.
Return to Regular Service
The updated timetable reinstates the regular weekday schedule, with peak trams departing from the city centre every seven minutes in each direction. During evening hours, services will operate at a maximum frequency of every fifteen minutes.
This shift replaces the temporary timetable that had been operational since October. During the trial period, trams ran every four minutes in both directions between Highbury Vale and Nottingham Station at The Forest tram stop. Beyond these stops, services maintained an eight-minute frequency until 11.00pm.
Positive Reception and Original Purpose
The enhanced timetable, which received favourable feedback from passengers, was initially introduced during the busy Goose Fair period. This strategic move aimed to bolster network capacity and support commuters during peak demand times.
The trial enabled operators to deliver a more consistent and reliable evening service, facilitating smoother city movement after dark and providing valuable support to Nottingham's burgeoning night-time economy.
Future Prospects and Ongoing Discussions
Although the trial period has concluded, constructive dialogue continues between NET management and Nottingham City Council. Both parties are exploring the potential for making the temporary enhanced timetable a permanent feature of the city's transport infrastructure.
