The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued new travel warnings for five countries, including two in Europe: Croatia and Bosnia. The advisory also covers Bolivia, Uganda, and Tanzania, highlighting various risks from border disruptions to health concerns.
Croatia and Bosnia: Border Crossing Closure
The Gradiška border crossing between Croatia and Bosnia has been closed due to the partial collapse of a bridge. The FCDO advises travellers to use alternative crossings and plan for possible delays from increased traffic congestion. This affects both countries, with the FCDO stating: "Use other border crossings and plan ahead for possible delays due to increased traffic congestion."
Bolivia: Protests and Road Blockades
The FCDO continues to advise against all travel to the department of La Paz, including the city of La Paz, due to ongoing protests and road blockades. There has been serious disruption and violence in central La Paz, particularly near government buildings. The FCDO warns: "Protests and road blockades are also impacting the department of La Paz, with the risk of them becoming violent. Follow the advice of local authorities and do not cross blockades." The situation could deteriorate quickly, so travellers should be ready to change plans.
Uganda: Ebola Outbreak
On 15 May, the Ugandan Ministry of Health announced an outbreak of Ebola Bundibugyo, including in Kampala. The FCDO highlights occasional Ebola outbreaks in Uganda. TravelHealthPro provides information on Ebola Disease in Uganda, and the World Health Organisation has declared Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
Tanzania: Health Screening Measures
The FCDO has added information about heightened health screening measures for those entering Tanzania from Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Travellers may encounter exit screening, including temperature checks, on leaving Uganda. Some countries have heightened health screening for travellers from Uganda. The UK Health Security Agency provides Ebola information for humanitarian or healthcare workers.
The FCDO advises: "If you choose to travel, research your destinations and get appropriate travel insurance. Insurance should cover your itinerary, planned activities and expenses in an emergency." It also reminds travellers that FCDO travel advice helps make informed decisions about risks.
