The United Kingdom is set to experience its first 30°C heatwave of the summer on May 28, according to weather maps. Data from WX Charts, which utilizes Met Desk information, indicates that 20 counties will reach temperatures of 27°C or higher towards the end of May.
Temperature Rise Expected from May 24
The GFS model from WX Charts shows temperatures beginning to climb from May 24, rising through the high twenties. On May 24 and 25, temperatures are expected to hover around 27°C. The mercury will then surge to 30°C on May 28, marking the first time this year the threshold has been broken.
Regions Affected
Areas likely to experience the heat include London and large parts of southern England. In the north of England, temperatures could reach 29°C. The south west is forecast to see 28°C, while the north west may reach 27°C.
Met Office Forecast
A Met Office forecast for the period from May 27 onwards suggests: "Patterns which bring more settled weather are more likely to dominate towards the end of May. Whilst further rain and showers are possible at times, there is likely to be longer spells of fine and dry weather."
Into June, the Met Office predicts more mixed conditions with spells of rain and showers, but also some drier weather. Temperatures are expected to be near or slightly above average overall, with some warm weather possible at times.
BBC Weather Outlook
The BBC Weather team has also indicated the possibility of more hot weather in June. According to the BBC's week-by-week outlook, there will be "plenty" of dry weather, with conditions feeling "warmer than usual" at times.
The BBC adds: "Weather patterns could be rather sluggish through the end of May and into early June, with small changes in the position of high pressure affecting overall conditions. It is again possible that the centre of high pressure could be positioned to the north for a while, with some or most of the UK perhaps cooling down a little for a couple of days. However, high pressure could also expand across the UK from the southwest, delivering warmer-than-average conditions again by the end of May. Either way, there should be plenty of dry weather, with near to below-normal precipitation amounts."
