A person has tragically died on the railway tracks at Smethwick Rolfe Street station in the Black Country this afternoon.
Emergency Response
Emergency services were called to the station at around 2:40pm on Wednesday, June 17. Despite their efforts, the individual was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
British Transport Police confirmed that the incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner.
Official Statement
A police spokesperson said: "Officers were called at 2.40pm today (17 June) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Smethwick railway station. Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Service Disruptions
West Midlands Railway reported that services between Walsall and Wolverhampton, as well as Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street, faced delays and alterations. Ticket acceptance was arranged with West Midlands Metro for travel between Wolverhampton and New Street.
