A major route through Birmingham's city centre will be completely closed to all traffic this coming weekend to facilitate essential construction work.
Why And When Is The Road Closing?
Snow Hill Queensway will be shut between St Chads Queensway and Colmore Circus to allow for a crane lift operation. The closure is necessary for public safety.
The shutdown will be in effect from 7am on Saturday 10th January until 7pm on Sunday 11th January 2026. During this period, no vehicles, including buses, will be permitted to travel through the affected section.
How Bus Services Are Affected
A significant number of National Express West Midlands bus routes will be diverted as a result of the Snow Hill Queensway closure. Passengers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
The following services will operate on diverted routes: 7, 9, 12, 13, 16, 52, 74, 101, 126, X8 and X10.
Detailed Diversion Routes For Passengers
For passengers using Services 7 and 52 travelling from Birmingham city centre, buses will divert from Colmore Row via Colmore Circus, Weaman Street, Whittall Street, St Chads Queensway, and Old Snow Hill to rejoin their normal route. Buses heading towards the city centre will follow their standard line.
Those using services 9, 12, 13, 101, 126, X8 and X10 towards Birmingham will see buses divert from Great Charles Street Queensway. They will perform a u-turn at the Snow Hill junction, then use Great Charles Street Queensway, Livery Street, and Colmore Row to reach the terminus. Services departing from Birmingham will run as normal.
Passengers on services 16 and 74 heading into Birmingham will divert from Old Snow Hill via Great Charles Street Queensway, Livery Street, Colmore Row, and will use stand SQ8 on Colmore Circus Queensway before rejoining the standard route. Buses going from Birmingham will divert from Priory Queensway via Weaman Street, Whittall Street, St Chads Queensway, and Old Snow Hill.
Motorists are reminded that the road will be inaccessible, and alternative routes should be sought. The weekend closure is a temporary measure to enable important construction work to proceed safely in the heart of the city.
