Tragic Minibus Crash Claims Life of 16-Year-Old Ellie Hague in Tadcaster

A community in North Yorkshire is in mourning after a 16-year-old student was killed in a devastating collision involving a school minibus.

Details of the Fatal Collision

Eleanor Hague, known affectionately as Ellie, lost her life in the incident on Toulston Lane in Tadcaster. The crash occurred at approximately 12:30pm on Monday, 1st December, and involved a white Mercedes Sprinter minibus and a Hyundai i10 car.

Ellie, from Sherburn in Elmet, was a passenger on the minibus, which was carrying nine teenagers aged between 16 and 18 at the time. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the sixth-form student from Tadcaster Grammar School was pronounced dead at the scene.

Injuries and Police Investigation

Another teenage girl sustained serious injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital. Her condition is not believed to be life-threatening. The other passengers on the minibus, along with the male driver, suffered minor injuries.

The passengers were from both Tadcaster Grammar School and Sherburn High School. North Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 40-year-old woman from Leeds, who was driving the Hyundai, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Officers from the Major Collision Investigation Team are urging anyone with information to come forward. They are particularly keen to speak to witnesses or obtain any dashcam footage that may have captured the moments before or during the collision.
