Uber passengers in Birmingham have received a stark warning after new data revealed they are ranked the third worst in the entire United Kingdom.
The UK's Lowest Rated Uber Passengers
Fresh statistics from the ride-hailing giant show a clear divide in passenger behaviour across British cities. The analysis, which is based on the mutual rating system where both drivers and riders score each other out of five after every trip, places Birmingham firmly near the bottom of the list.
Bristol holds the dubious honour of having the UK's lowest average rider rating at 4.73, closely followed by London at 4.75. Birmingham passengers achieved an average score of 4.79, significantly below the national average of 4.84.
How to Improve Your Uber Rating
In response to the findings, Uber has issued guidance for riders looking to boost their scores. The company emphasised that the platform thrives on mutual respect between drivers and passengers.
Key advice includes avoiding being late for a booked ride, refraining from eating inside the vehicle, and not changing the destination mid-journey. The company also stressed the importance of respectful behaviour towards drivers at all times.
A passenger's overall rating is calculated from their most recent 500 trips, meaning that consistent good etiquette is essential for maintaining a high score.
Contrasting Fortunes: The Best and Worst Rated Cities
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Uber users in Belfast were revealed to be the most polite in the UK, boasting an impressive average rating of 4.91.
The five locations with the highest average rider ratings are:
- Belfast (4.91)
- Cambridge (4.89)
- Oxford (4.88)
- Merseyside (4.88)
- Cardiff (4.86)
The five locations with the lowest average rider ratings are:
- Bristol (4.73)
- London (4.75)
- Birmingham (4.79)
- Leicester (4.81)
- Manchester (4.82)
Andrew Brem, General Manager for Uber UK, commented on the findings, stating: "Every day, thousands of incredible drivers go the extra mile to make trips safe, friendly and enjoyable. The Uber community is built on mutual respect, and we hope this serves as a reminder to keep those positive connections going."
The message from Uber is clear: while great cities form the backbone of their service, there is always room for improvement when it comes to rider etiquette.
