130mph Motorway Driver in Midlands Gets Speeding Ticket Shock

Dangerous drivers in the West Midlands have been clocked at speeds exceeding 130mph, nearly double the national motorway limit of 70mph, according to exclusive data obtained from West Midlands Police. These reckless motorists, who initially may have thought they escaped detection, soon received speeding tickets in the post, potentially accompanied by driving bans due to the severity of their offences.

Shocking Speeding Statistics

Between October and the end of April, three vehicles were recorded travelling at over 130mph in the region. The figures, released following a freedom of information request by BirminghamLive, also show seven cars caught between 120-129mph, four between 110-120mph, and 28 between 100-110mph. In total, 42 vehicles exceeded 100mph, with a further 173 clocked between 90-99mph.

Most of these incidents likely occurred on major motorways such as the M6 or M42, where speed cameras are in operation. Prosecution is not guaranteed in all cases, but those who are taken to court may face licence cancellation.

Widespread Speeding Problem

The data highlights the prevalence of speeding on busy roads. A staggering 1,395 drivers were caught doing 80-89mph, and 1,321 between 70-79mph. However, the majority of speeding offences occur on 30mph roads, with a massive 68,000 drivers clocked between 30-39mph.

Despite these figures, many speeding drivers evade detection, and enforcement varies significantly across the UK, with Warwickshire issuing more tickets than the West Midlands despite its smaller population.
