Brierley Hill Among 15 UK Postcodes Facing Royal Mail Delivery Delays
Brierley Hill Postcode Hit by Royal Mail Delivery Delays

Brierley Hill has been named among 15 UK postcodes currently experiencing Royal Mail delivery delays. The Black Country town appears on a list of areas impacted by late deliveries, as confirmed by the postal service on Monday, May 11.

Royal Mail issued a delivery disruption alert after delays emerged across its network. The firm acknowledged that numerous regions throughout the UK are affected, with 15 postcode areas facing disruptions as of today.

Other affected locations include Daventry, Alfreton, Erskine, Brackley, Kidlington, Tweedale, and Wantage. Royal Mail explained that in a small number of local offices, deliveries may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing challenges, or other local factors.

Royal Mail stated: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers."

The company added: "We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive. We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding."

During the past 24 hours, Royal Mail's air and road operations ran according to plan. However, not all post was processed and sent to schedule during the weekend from the Truro Mail Centre. The company noted that some mail posted in the TR postcode area on Friday for delivery to other parts of the UK on Saturday was affected.

The disruption comes as Royal Mail pledged to achieve its delivery targets by May 2027 as part of a £500 million plan. The firm has faced complaints regarding delayed deliveries and was even issued a penalty. Royal Mail was handed a £21 million fine by Ofcom in October after falling short of its targets, having delivered just 77 per cent of first class post and 92.5 per cent of second class post on time in 2024-25.

Last month, Ofcom reduced the delivery targets for first class post, lowering the next-day delivery requirement from 93 to 90 per cent, while the second class three-day delivery target was cut from 98.5 to 95 per cent. In a bid to meet those targets, Royal Mail is planning to scrap its Saturday second class deliveries and switch to alternate weekdays — three days one week and two the next.

Royal Mail has pledged to improve first class next day delivery to around 85 per cent within nine months, before hitting the 90 per cent target set by regulator Ofcom within a year. The postal giant also committed to delivering 93 per cent of second class letters within three days over nine months, with a pledge to reach the 95 per cent target by next May.

The full list of Royal Mail delays today includes: Alfreton DO (DE55), Brackley DO (NN12, NN13), Brierley Hill DO (DY5), Daventry DO (NN11), Erskine DO (PA7, PA8), Kidlington DO (OX5, OX20), Tweedale DO (TF3, TF4, TF7, TF8, TF12), and Wantage DO (OX12).
