A rush hour collision between a bus and a van on a busy Birmingham roundabout caused significant traffic disruption on Monday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 6pm on Monday, January 5, at Heybarnes Circus in Small Heath. This is the roundabout where Small Heath Highway meets Coventry Road, located close to the area's Asda supermarket.

The vehicles involved were a National Express West Midlands X1 bus, which runs to Coventry via Birmingham Airport and the NEC, and a red and white van. The van appeared to be a former British Heart Foundation vehicle, with a faded logo still visible on its front.

Vehicle Damage and Emergency Response

The bus sustained considerable front-end damage, with its windscreen smashed on the driver's side. The van suffered damage to its front passenger side, and its front bumper and number plate were dislodged in the impact.

Both drivers were reported to be men. A passenger on the bus, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the bus driver remained in his seat until the arrival of emergency services. The witness added that there did not appear to be any immediate physical injuries from the crash.
