Hutton: Curtis Jones Would Be Strong Villa Signing

Former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has backed Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones as an ideal summer signing for Unai Emery's side. Jones, 25, is expected to leave Anfield this summer and has drawn interest from Inter Milan, but Hutton believes Villa should make a move.

Transfer Value and Interest

Liverpool have already rejected a verbal offer of around £21.7 million from Inter, with the Reds reportedly valuing Jones closer to £35 million. The England youth international has just one year remaining on his contract at Anfield and has started only 37 of Liverpool's 76 Premier League matches since the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

Hutton's Verdict

Speaking to PariuriX.com, Hutton said: "I think Curtis Jones would complement the midfield at Aston Villa very well. Whenever he plays, you can see his quality. He always wants the ball and always brings something to the table."

Hutton praised Jones's ability to carry the ball from deep, play in tight areas, and break opposition lines. "He has the quality to do it, and he can play in different positions as well. I think bringing someone like him into the squad who has played at a very high level before can complement the team. He would be a good signing."

The former Scotland international also contrasted Jones's situation with that of Harvey Elliott, another Liverpool midfielder linked with a move away. "It was a different situation with Harvey Elliott, and I do feel sorry for him. I like him as a player, but he went through some tough times, also with his contract situation. He is more of a winger, and it didn't really work, but I think Jones would bring something else."

Villa's Summer Plans

Unai Emery is expected to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2026/27 season, and Jones could provide depth and quality in midfield. With only one year left on his deal, Liverpool may be forced to sell this summer rather than risk losing him for free next year.
