Credit card giant American Express has unveiled a trio of new, time-limited promotions for UK customers, offering the chance to earn substantial bonus points and travel credit worth up to £600. The offers, available on both Platinum and Gold Cards, are set to run until 13 January 2026.
Platinum and Gold Card Sign-Up Bonuses
The headline offer is for the Platinum Card, which provides new members with a significant incentive. To qualify, cardholders must spend £6,000 within the first six months of membership. Upon meeting this threshold, they will receive 75,000 Membership Rewards points, which American Express values at £350, plus an additional £250 in American Express Travel credit.
It is crucial to note that this offer is only available to individuals who have not held an American Express Card enrolled in the Membership Rewards programme in the past 12 months.
For those considering the Gold Card, a separate promotion is in place. New Gold Card members can earn 40,000 Membership Rewards points (worth £200) by spending £5,000 in their first six months. A key benefit of the Gold Card is the waived £195 annual fee for the first year, with the charge applying from the second year onwards.
‘Invite a Friend’ Promotion
Beyond the standard sign-up deals, American Express is also running a popular referral scheme. Existing Platinum Card members can participate in the ‘Invite a friend’ offer, which is also valid until 13 January 2026.
For every successful referral, the existing member will earn 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards points. The friend they invite, provided they are approved for a Platinum Card, can earn an even larger welcome bonus of 85,000 points plus £250 in travel credit, provided they spend £6,000 within their first three months of membership.
Act Before the Deadline
These offers represent a limited opportunity for consumers to boost their rewards balances significantly. With the deadline for all three promotions set for mid-January 2026, prospective applicants have a clear timeframe to assess their eligibility and spending capacity.
As with all financial promotions, it is essential to read the full terms and conditions and ensure that any required spending is manageable within your personal budget. These bonus points can be highly valuable for offsetting travel costs or redeeming for other rewards, but the associated card fees and interest rates should be carefully considered.
