Nationwide Tops UK's Most Admired Companies 2025 in Banking
Nationwide Wins Gold in UK's Most Admired Companies 2025

In a significant accolade for the financial sector, Nationwide Building Society has issued a notable announcement to its 16 million members after securing a prestigious national honour.

A Prestigious Honour for the UK's Largest Mutual

The building society, which ranks as the UK's largest and the world's biggest mutual, confirmed on Friday, January 16, 2026, that it has won the gold award in the Retail Banking sector of Britain's Most Admired Companies 2025. This marks a rare and standout achievement in the fiercely competitive UK banking landscape.

Nationwide triumphed over a field of 11 major retail banking providers, including rivals such as TSB, Santander, HSBC UK, Lloyds, Barclays, NatWest, The Co-operative Bank, and First Direct. The study, now in its 36th year, is the UK's longest-running corporate reputation survey, uniquely based on assessments by financial analysts and industry peers.

Excellence Across Key Categories

The mutual was recognised as the top performer in four critical areas, demonstrating a balanced and purpose-driven approach to business. The categories where Nationwide led the pack are:

  • Quality of products and services
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)
  • Reducing environmental impact
  • Positive contribution to society

Chief Executive Officer Debbie Crosbie commented on the award, stating it reflects the progress in building a stronger Nationwide. "This award reflects the progress we've made in building an even stronger Nationwide – one that delivers banking that's fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society," she said. "We are delighted to receive this recognition from those who best understand our industry."

A Reputation Built on Trust and Performance

Sandra Macleod, Group CEO of Echo Research, which runs the study, highlighted the significance of Nationwide's win. "Nationwide's achievement is a standout result in a sector where trust is hard won and constantly tested," she said. "To be rated #1 by peers and City experts for product and service quality - while also leading on inclusion, environmental impact and contribution to society - demonstrates a rare combination: performance with purpose, delivered consistently."

Macleod added that the gold award reflects "not just strong execution, but a reputation built on credibility, care and long-term value creation."

This corporate accolade follows another sustained success for the building society. Nationwide has also retained its customer satisfaction lead for the 14th consecutive year and was recently named Which? Banking Brand of the Year.

The dual recognition from both industry experts and consumers underscores Nationwide's unique position in the UK market as a member-owned organisation consistently prioritising customer service and societal impact alongside financial performance.
