Spa La La: Birmingham's Innovative Salon for Family Pampering
In Great Barr, a new beauty salon called Spa La La has opened, offering a unique concept where mothers and children can enjoy spa treatments together. Founded by Anna Shinh from Sutton Coldfield, the salon aims to provide a one-stop shop for families seeking relaxation and fun.
A Dream Realised After Redundancy
Anna Shinh, a former Selfridges employee, conceived the idea following the birth of her two children but was too busy to pursue it initially. In October 2025, after being made redundant from her sales job, she decided to launch the business. She opened Spa La La in February 2026 in a former hair salon on Pages Lane, Great Barr, retaining the existing hairstylists to expand the services.
The salon features pink satin gowns, foot spas, glitter tattoos, facials with face gems, and photo opportunities. It also operates as a full hair salon, offering cuts, colours, and blow dries. Additionally, clients can relax in a garden area.
Pamper Parties for All Ages
Spa La La hosts pamper parties catering to all ages, from children to adults. Anna shared an example: "We did a pamper party for a 62-year-old last week. It was so cute." During these events, adults might enjoy prosecco and treatments like massages, while children engage in activities such as foot spas, glitter tattoos, hair styling, and facial gems.
The salon attracts families for various services, including:
- Hairdressing and facials
- Manicures and pedicures
- Full party packages
- Massages, tinting, and waxing
- Colourful braiding and Indian head massages
Anna named the salon Spa La La to reflect fun and laughter, with a pink-themed decor. Her children, Rohan (8) and Rani (6), are involved, with Rani even cutting the ribbon at the opening with the Lord Mayor.
Future Plans and Family Involvement
Anna is planning a special Father's Day package for dads and daughters to enjoy together. She emphasised the salon's family-friendly atmosphere, noting that her daughter often claims ownership, saying, "no mummy, I am the boss." This personal touch adds to the salon's charm, making it a standout destination in Birmingham for family wellness and bonding.
