Tourists planning their next getaway must pay close attention to a critical packing warning issued by major holiday provider TUI. The airline has clarified its policy on social media, specifically addressing where passengers should pack common grooming items like electric shavers.
Lithium Battery Items Must Go in Hand Luggage
TUI has emphasized that any items containing lithium batteries, including rechargeable speakers and electric shavers, must be placed in hand luggage, not in checked hold baggage. This advice came in response to a direct inquiry from a passenger named Anthony Chesney, who was preparing for a flight to the Dominican Republic.
Anthony asked TUKUK on X whether he could pack his rechargeable speaker and shaver in his hold luggage. A TUI representative replied, "Hey Anthony, if they contain a lithium battery, then we advise these need to be in your hand luggage, but if not, then hold baggage is completely fine."
Specific Guidelines for Electronic Devices
Beyond just shavers, TUI has outlined broader rules for electronic devices. Passengers are permitted to carry small devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras, and MP3 players in their hand luggage. However, larger items like laptops must be removed from bags during security screening for additional checks.
Important Note: Small vehicles powered by lithium batteries, such as hoverboards, Segways, and balance wheels, are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage.
New Airport Security Measures
TUI also highlighted new airport security measures that require electronic devices to be fully charged when going through security. The airline explained, "If you're carrying any electronic devices in your hand luggage that are capable of holding a charge, you'll need to make sure they're fully charged when you go through airport security."
This policy is part of enhanced security protocols implemented at airports across the UK and internationally. TUI recommends keeping devices like mobile phones switched on until boarding, as further checks may occur at the departure gate.
For more detailed information on luggage allowances and specific rules, passengers are encouraged to visit TUI's official website. This warning serves as a timely reminder for all travelers to review packing lists carefully to avoid issues at security and ensure a smooth journey.
