Davies: Blues in talks to make Solis permanent

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has confirmed to BirminghamLive that the club is 'in touch' with City Football Group regarding the permanent acquisition of Colombian midfielder Jhon Solis. The 21-year-old is set to play the final match of his loan spell from Girona on Saturday when Blues face Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Solis has made 17 appearances for Birmingham City and scored his first goal for the club in last weekend's victory over Bristol City at St Andrew's. Davies had previously expressed his desire to make Solis's stay permanent, and his parent club Girona, which is owned by City Football Group, is open to selling.

Blues are understood to have an option to buy Solis this summer, and negotiations are ongoing with City Football Group, which also owns Manchester City. "I know that we're in touch with City (Football Group) who actually own him," Davies revealed. "We speak to them all the time about him. They've come to visit and I've spoken to them about his progress. They're communicating with us and we have a really good relationship there."

Davies added that Solis is enthusiastic about staying at Birmingham. "I know the player loves it here. I've told him how well he's done and how much we would love for him to be part of it, and he's really enthusiastic, but we'll have to see how it all unfolds after the season finishes."

However, there is concern that other English clubs have also taken an interest in Solis over the past four months. While Birmingham City can present a compelling case for him to remain in the Championship, some of the other interested teams could potentially be in the Premier League next season.
