Interactive Tool Shows Your World Travel Percentage and Stats

Discover Your Global Travel Percentage with a New Interactive Tool

Ever wondered exactly how much of the world you have explored? A new interactive tool allows travellers to calculate the percentage of the planet they have visited by selecting all the countries they have been to. This innovative feature also determines how many continents you have covered and compares your statistics against other globetrotters, displaying your travel footprint on a digital globe.

Research Highlights Travel as a Status Symbol

The tool follows recent research that sheds light on travel behaviours. A poll of 2,000 travellers, commissioned by travel insurance specialist Staysure, revealed that 43 per cent of respondents enjoy comparing the number of destinations they have visited abroad with others. This trend is driven by a desire to impress with worldliness and a sense of adventure, or to be perceived as financially well-off.

According to the study, 34 per cent of travellers view their list of visited countries as a badge of honour, while one in five feel quietly superior to those who have travelled less. Interestingly, 39 per cent find discussions about travel achievements annoying, yet some individuals exaggerate their experiences by including childhood trips or even airport layovers in their country counts.

Travel Patterns and Destination Preferences

The research uncovered key travel patterns. On average, travellers have visited seven countries by age 30, with this number nearly doubling to 15 by age 60. Travel peaks at age 34 for many, but 44 per cent admit that their trips abroad decrease as they grow older. Despite this, 40 per cent consider it important to keep expanding their country list, with a common goal of reaching 30 destinations.

To achieve this, 56 per cent would consider multi-destination holidays like cruises. The top countries already visited include France (77 per cent), Spain (76 per cent), and Italy (58 per cent). For future travel, New Zealand (24 per cent), Japan (23 per cent), and Australia (18 per cent) top the wish list, while Canada is nearly twice as popular as the United States. Belgium ranks at the bottom of the top 50 desired destinations.

Expert Insights on Travel Enthusiasm

A spokesperson from Staysure commented on the findings, stating, "Travelling abroad is exciting, and the memories made with friends and family can last forever. It's not surprising people love talking about where they've been and comparing countries visited. Sharing experiences inspires others to explore new places." They emphasised the importance of having proper travel insurance to ensure worry-free adventures.

The study also found that 56 per cent of respondents wish they were better travelled, highlighting a widespread aspiration for more global exploration. This tool not only satisfies curiosity but also fuels the desire to discover new destinations and expand personal travel horizons.
