Birmingham Police Chase Ends in Dramatic Crash as Two Men Are Jailed

A dangerous driver has been arrested after crashing a stolen vehicle into a building in Birmingham city centre during a high-speed police chase. Benjamin Evans, aged 20, was detained following the incident on Suffolk Street Queensway, which concluded a pursuit that began in Staffordshire.

Footage Captures Reckless Pursuit Through Tunnels

Video evidence shows the stolen Volvo racing through the Queensway tunnels with police officers in close pursuit, their blue lights flashing urgently. Evans exited the tunnel and ploughed into a building, causing significant damage as a wheel detached and debris scattered across the pavement and road.

As officers pulled up alongside the wrecked vehicle, the driver opened the door and immediately dropped to the ground, where he was swiftly handcuffed and taken into custody.

Jail Sentences for Cross-County Crime Spree

Evans, along with accomplice Kyle Draper, aged 21, has since been jailed for a series of car thefts from driveways across Cheshire and North Wales. Both individuals, who had no fixed address, pleaded guilty to multiple charges including four burglaries, two thefts, and dangerous driving at an earlier court hearing.

Draper received a sentence of 42 months in prison, while Evans was sentenced to 45 months. This follows a thorough investigation by Cheshire Police into burglaries that occurred between February 2 and 3.

Police Investigation Uncovers Coordinated Theft Ring

The probe identified two stolen vehicles, a Hyundai and a Seat Arona, traveling in convoy from North Wales to Chester on the evening of February 2. CCTV footage placed both vehicles in the city centre later that night, and further surveillance linked them to the theft of an Audi Q3 from an address in Upton.

The Audi and the Seat were then captured traveling together to Crewe, where the Hyundai was abandoned and later recovered by authorities. A Volvo was subsequently stolen in Crewe, with both the Audi and Volvo seen moving in convoy between Cheshire and Staffordshire.

Dangerous Pursuit Leads to Arrests

On the afternoon of February 3, officers from the Roads and Crime Unit spotted the two stolen cars and attempted to stop them. Both vehicles fled, driving dangerously throughout the pursuit. The Audi crashed in the Staffordshire area, leading to Draper's arrest, while the Volvo continued into the West Midlands at high speed before crashing, resulting in Evans' arrest.

Mobile phones were seized from the suspects, and a footwear identification officer confirmed that Draper's footwear was found at the Upton address, with Evans' footwear highly likely to have been present at the same location.

Police Statement Highlights Relentless Pursuit of Justice

PC Jack Ryder commented on the case, stating, "These two reckless young men targeted so many addresses in such a short period of time, but didn’t count on us closing in on them and stopping them in their tracks, not only with the help of our colleagues in specialist departments but also our colleagues in the West Midlands."

He added, "As a result of our combined efforts we were able to take them down and get justice for the victims. I hope this reassures people that we are relentless in our pursuit of those who break the law."
