A New Chapter for Broad Street
The iconic team behind Birmingham's legendary Snobs nightclub has acquired a prominent city centre location, signalling a major boost for the local entertainment scene. They have purchased the long leasehold for the former Players Bar at 240 Broad Street, a venue that succumbed to the pandemic's impact in 2022, for a sum of £2.5 million.
Ambitious £4 Million Development Plans
Wayne Tracey, the owner of Snobs, has outlined ambitious and surprise plans for the site, with a total investment of £4 million earmarked over the next two years. The centrepiece of this project will be a new, best-in-class Irish bar, scheduled to open its doors in the first quarter of 2026.
Tracey revealed that the bar's name will have a personal touch, reflecting the team's Irish heritage. The vision extends far beyond a typical pub, aiming to create a multi-use facility that offers a unique experience for Broad Street.
The development will be rolled out in phases, starting with the street-fronted Irish bar. Subsequent phases will introduce a variety of vibrant spaces, including:
- An inviting garden terrace
- A spacious roof terrace
- Dedicated areas for live music and DJs
- Flexible spaces for sports viewing and entertainment
The design focuses on incorporating both indoor and outdoor areas to provide flexibility for daytime and evening hospitality, ensuring the venue becomes a cornerstone of the area.
A Vote of Confidence in Birmingham's Future
This significant investment is seen as a powerful endorsement of Broad Street's enduring appeal. Paul Newby of Matthew Phillips Surveyors, who handled the sale, described the project as the renaissance of a well-known venue. He stated it represents a fantastic vote of confidence in the city's leisure scene, putting Birmingham firmly on the map for locals and visitors alike.
This new Irish bar will join Snobs' growing portfolio of city centre venues, which already includes popular spots like Henman & Cooper, Theatrix, and Sobar. The redevelopment of the site, located between the Leonardo Hotel and the Figure of Eight Wetherspoons pub, is set to reinvigorate a key part of Birmingham's famous nightlife strip.
