West Midlands petrol prices rose by an average of 0.86p per litre last month, while diesel prices fell, according to new data tracking prices every three hours across 161 stations in the region.
Petrol Rises Across Most of Region
In the two weeks to 1 June 2026, petrol increased in the majority of locations, with only one area seeing a decrease. The average petrol price across all monitored stations rose by 0.86p per litre between 18 May and 1 June. Over the same period, the average diesel price fell by 2.71p per litre.
Bilston, Smethwick and Willenhall recorded the largest town-level petrol increases at 2.00p per litre each. Wolverhampton saw a rise of 1.40p, while Wednesbury and Walsall both added 1.20p. At station level, the biggest individual petrol increase was 5.00p at the Birmingham Asda Express, followed by 4.00p rises at the Birmingham Gulf, Willenhall Morrisons, and Coventry Gulf on Binley Road.
Only Oldbury saw petrol fall, dropping 0.40p. Brierley Hill and Rowley Regis held flat. Halesowen remains the most expensive location for petrol at 163.90p, moving higher over the period. West Bromwich (161.60p) and Sutton Coldfield (160.80p) also remain well above the regional average.
Diesel Falls Across All Locations
Diesel prices dropped in every single town across the region. The largest cuts came from Wolverhampton, where two independent stations and a Murco site made striking reductions. The independent on Witton Road in Birmingham cut diesel by 13.00p from 179.60p to 166.60p, and the Wolverhampton Murco matched that with a 13.00p cut from 181.90p to 168.90p. The Blakenhall independent in Wolverhampton dropped 11.00p.
At town level, Dudley saw the sharpest diesel drop at 4.00p, followed by Wednesbury at 3.80p and Wolverhampton at 3.20p. Every single town in the West Midlands saw diesel fall over the fortnight, making this the first region in the monitoring data where diesel moved in the right direction for drivers across the board without exception.
Even the BP motorway station at Wolverhampton cut diesel by 5.00p, from 204.90p to 199.90p, though it remains almost 30p above the cheapest diesel available in the region.
Brand Analysis
Gulf recorded the largest average petrol rise across its West Midlands stations at 2.57p, followed by Tesco at 1.56p and Morrisons at 1.54p. Valero was the only mainstream brand to reduce petrol prices on average, cutting by 1.25p across its four regional stations.
On diesel, Murco led the cuts with an average reduction of 8.00p across its two West Midlands stations. Valero followed at 5.59p and Jet at 3.43p. Every brand in the dataset cut its average diesel price over the period.
Welcome Break, despite holding petrol flat at its two motorway sites, reduced diesel by 3.00p on average, though its sites at 185.90p for petrol and 199.90p for diesel remain the most expensive in the region by a clear margin.
The two Costco sites in Birmingham and Coventry both cut petrol by 0.50p and diesel by 2.50p over the period, maintaining their position as by far the best value forecourts in the region on both fuel types.
Data was collected by finance experts from Fast Loan UK, tracking prices every three hours across 161 West Midlands stations.
