Crown Gas & Power Unveils £12m Bury Headquarters Plan to Fuel Growth
Energy supplier Crown Gas & Power has revealed ambitious plans for a £12 million new headquarters in Bury, designed to support its goal of doubling the size of its business. The firm has submitted a planning application to Bury Council for a large office block at Chamberhall Business Park, located between Dunster Road and Magdelene Road.
Economic Boost and Job Creation
The council-owned plot was sold to Crown Gas & Power last month, with the aim of bringing more employment and investment to the area. The town hall anticipates that the project will generate approximately £310,000 annually in business rates, inject £8 million into the local economy, and create 250 new jobs. This development is seen as a significant step in bolstering Bury's commercial landscape.
Design Features and Architectural Vision
The proposed headquarters includes a main office building and three smaller mixed-use employment units. Designs for the primary office feature a staff gym overlooking a pond on the site, large open-plan workspaces with central kitchenettes and meeting pods, and a canteen. According to a design and access statement by Barrowclough Architects, the office building will be a bespoke feature within the wider Chamberhall development, reflecting Crown Gas & Power's recent growth and commitment to remaining a key local employer.
Company Background and Local Ties
Crown Gas & Power is a family-owned business that serves around 2.5 percent of the UK's commercial gas market and one percent of the UK's power market. The owning family already operates several businesses within the borough, including offices and workshops in Pilsworth and the town centre. Additionally, they are investing heavily in Warth Business Park with the development of a new Adblue production facility, further cementing their ties to the local economy.
Leadership Perspective and Future Outlook
Matthew Greensmith, managing director of Crown Gas & Power, expressed pride in the company's roots in Bury and excitement about the opportunity to develop a new headquarters that supports continued growth. Town planners are expected to make a decision on the planning application by the end of April, marking a critical milestone for the project's progression.
