Asda Unveils 20 New Express Stores Across the UK in Major Expansion
Asda opens 20 new Express stores across the UK

Supermarket giant Asda has launched a significant expansion of its convenience store network, confirming plans to open 20 new Express stores across the United Kingdom. This move marks a strategic push into high-footfall locations, including city centres, residential neighbourhoods, and key transport links.

Strategic Growth in Convenience Retail

The rollout represents a return to standalone openings for the Asda Express format. It builds upon the integration of 469 sites acquired from The Co-op and EG Group, significantly bolstering the chain's presence in the competitive convenience sector. Asda reports that its Express outlets are outperforming the wider market, attributing success to a combination of strong product choice and notably lower prices compared to rival convenience operators.

Joseph Sutton, Asda's Vice President for Express, Foodservice and Fuel, commented on the initial wave of openings back in October 2025. "We’re thrilled to be opening nine new Express stores this week, including seven in London – an area where we have traditionally had less of a presence in convenience," he stated.

Bringing Value to More Communities

This expansion is a core component of Asda's strategy to extend its value proposition to more urban areas and residential communities. "These openings are a key part of our strategy to bring Asda’s unbeatable value to more urban areas and residential communities across the UK," added Sutton.

The retailer emphasised that customer anticipation for these new stores has been high. "We know customers have looked forward to these stores opening for a long time, and we’re delighted to welcome them in and offer outstanding value across their favourite products," a company spokesperson said. This nationwide rollout signals Asda's committed investment in the growing convenience store market, directly competing with other major retailers on the high street.
