Morrisons Introduces New Water Service for Professionals
Supermarket chain Morrisons has announced a significant expansion of its customer services with the introduction of round-the-clock pure water stations across its car parks in England. This initiative, developed through a national partnership with SpotlessWater, is designed to provide a valuable resource for local tradespeople and businesses.
Strategic Rollout and Key Locations
The installation of these 24/7 self-service pure water stations commenced this autumn. The very first sites became operational in October, located at Morrisons stores in Shrewsbury, Lichfield, and Woking. The rollout is set to continue, with a further nine locations scheduled to be equipped by early 2026. These include stores in Cardiff, Whitley Bay, and Stratford, with more sites to be confirmed in the future.
This move is a key part of Morrisons' broader strategy to diversify the services available at its supermarkets and forecourts. The goal is to attract not only regular shoppers but also to provide essential facilities for local trade professionals.
Meeting Professional Demand with Sustainable Tech
The water provided by SpotlessWater is ultra-pure, which is essential for professionals like window cleaners, vehicle detailers, and solar panel technicians who require a completely streak-free and residue-free finish for their work.
SpotlessWater is an established player in this field, currently operating more than 150 refill stations across the country. Since its launch in 2016, the company has dispensed an impressive over 600 million litres of pure water. Their high-tech systems are built with a strong focus on sustainability. The technology is designed to minimise water waste and completely eliminates the need for disposable resins or harsh cleaning chemicals.
To ensure consistent quality and performance, each station is equipped with more than 45 sensors that remotely monitor water quality, flow, and pressure in real time.
A Partnership for Convenience and Innovation
Tim Morris, CEO of SpotlessWater, stated that this collaboration will make professional-grade water more accessible than ever before. He commented, “This partnership will give customers access to more convenient, secure and well-located stations while providing Morrisons with a complementary new revenue stream.”
Echoing this sentiment, Jason Mallinson, Services Procurement Manager at Morrisons, emphasised that the move reflects the retailer's ongoing commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. He added, “This partnership offers a new and sustainable service that supports local professionals while giving customers even more reasons to visit our stores.”
This new water service underscores Morrisons' growing focus on broadening its in-store and forecourt offerings. It joins a suite of other modern amenities, including electric vehicle charging points and parcel lockers, positioning the supermarket as a one-stop hub for both daily shopping and professional needs.
