Luna Springs Licence Suspended After Double Stabbing

Luna Springs, a nightclub in Digbeth, has had its licence suspended for 28 days following a double stabbing incident over the weekend. The decision was made by Birmingham City Council's licensing sub-committee after an emergency application by West Midlands Police.

Incident Details

The violence occurred during a day rave at the venue, which police said 'attracted significant press interest' and 'involved the use of a weapon inside a licensed premises'. Two men were taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of wounding and later bailed with strict conditions, but police confirmed there are 'outstanding offenders' still being sought.

Impact on Events

The suspension puts upcoming events at risk, including a planned fan park for the Aston Villa Europa League Final next Wednesday. Pc Ben Reader told the private hearing that the disorder took place in the venue's large outdoor space with a stage. The force recorded two Section 18 Woundings.

Committee Decision

Coun Diane Donaldson announced the suspension, which will remain in place for 28 days pending a full review. The licence can only be reinstated once additional conditions agreed with the club owners are implemented and police are satisfied.
