M&S Implements Major Returns Policy Change Across All UK Stores

Marks and Spencer has announced a significant reduction in its returns window, cutting it by a full week with immediate effect. The retailer has changed its standard refund period from 35 days to just 28 days for all purchases, whether made online or in physical stores.

Policy Shift to Align with Industry Standards

This shake-up affects every M&S branch across the United Kingdom, including locations in Birmingham and Solihull. The company stated that the move is designed to bring its returns policy in line with other major retailers and to facilitate quicker restocking of products.

In an official statement, M&S explained: "We've moved our standard refund window to 28 days to bring us in line with other retailers and help get products back into stock sooner. The updated window still offers plenty of flexibility for customers and all other elements of our returns process remain the same."

New Farnham Store Opening Coincides with Policy Change

The policy revision comes during the same week that M&S unveiled a brand-new 18,600 square foot food store in Farnham. Customers queued early to be among the first to experience the fresh market-style foodhall, which offers the complete range of M&S Food products.

Store Manager Joe Bentley, accompanied by new recruit Lucy Rogers, Percy Pig, and Farnham's Town Crier Michael Stephens, officially opened the store with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Bentley expressed enthusiasm about the opening: "We are so excited to bring the best of M&S Food to Farnham. The response from customers is brilliant so far."

Economic Impact and Customer Considerations

The Farnham store opening has created more than 60 new local jobs, with plans for the location first announced in May of the previous year. Meanwhile, the returns policy change means shoppers nationwide now have exactly four weeks to return items for a refund, a reduction that may require customers to be more prompt with their returns decisions.

Bentley added about the new Farnham location: "Our new store has something for everyone, whether doing your weekly shop or popping in for lunch, with our full product range to choose from and all delivering M&S trusted value and unbeatable quality."

The retailer emphasized that while the returns window has been shortened, all other aspects of their returns process remain unchanged, maintaining their commitment to customer service despite the revised timeframe.
