Aldi has announced a major change to blackberries in all its stores this month. The supermarket chain says the move aims to improve partnerships with British suppliers.
New Sweeter Blackberries
In partnership with its main supplier, Driscoll’s, Aldi will now sell naturally sweeter and less tart blackberries. As part of the shake-up, all fresh blackberries in Aldi stores will be 100% British-grown.
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “We expect our blackberries to taste better than ever this season. By working closely with our British suppliers to improve sweetness and consistency, we’re making sure customers can enjoy the very best of homegrown fruit and keep coming back for more.”
James Crook, customer development director at Driscoll’s, added: “Exceptional flavour is the result of years of dedicated natural breeding and selecting only the finest blackberry varieties. By working closely with Aldi, we are able to grow and harvest fruit at the optimal moment, delivering British blackberries that are naturally sweeter, more succulent, and consistently high quality throughout the season.”
Rollout Details
British blackberries will be available in select Aldi stores from the beginning of May, with a nationwide rollout scheduled for May 21.
Mokate Matcha Latte Returns
Aldi is also bringing back its popular Mokate Matcha Latte (84g/6 servings) to stores nationwide, priced at just £1.49. Available from May 7, the Japanese-inspired drink returns in ‘Original’ and ‘Strawberry’ flavours following a successful launch last summer, which saw almost 700,000 packets sold.
The #Matcha trend continues to grow in popularity with over 4.3 million videos on TikTok. The range proved popular with shoppers and matcha lovers alike, with fans on Facebook describing it as a “favourite” and “love them,” with particular praise for the Strawberry flavour, called “gorgeous.”
The easy-to-use sachets offer a simple way to enjoy matcha at home, either hot or iced, Aldi says.
