Jeffrey Archer Offers Name in Final Novel for Cambridge Children's Hospital
Bid to Have Your Name in a Jeffrey Archer Novel

This November presents a truly singular opportunity for literature lovers and philanthropists alike. As part of Cheffins auction house's 200-Year Anniversary Charity Auction, one fortunate bidder will secure the chance to have their name written into a future Jeffrey Archer novel.

A Fitting Finale for a Literary Legend

The international bestselling author, Jeffrey Archer, who is celebrating his 50th year of writing, has partnered with the auction house for this special event. The winning bidder's name will be featured in his final standalone novel, which is scheduled for publication in 2026. Lord Archer expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating it was a chance to have a little fun while supporting a fantastic cause.

"Not many people can say they've found their way into a Jeffrey Archer novel, but this auction gives them the chance!" he said. "It's my final standalone novel, so I thought it was time to have a little fun and try to raise money for a fantastic charity at the same time."

Supporting a Pioneering Children's Hospital

All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust. The funds are specifically earmarked for their campaign to build the new Cambridge Children's Hospital (CCH). This hospital will be a landmark institution, as it is set to be the first specialist children's hospital in the East of England.

Furthermore, it aims to be the first in the world to fully integrate physical and mental health treatment for children, alongside world-leading research. The money raised will contribute directly to building a playroom at this pioneering new facility.

Lord Archer highlighted the personal connection to the charity, noting, "Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust is a charity which is close to my heart, not least because my wife, Mary, is president and has committed so much of her life to Addenbrooke's." He urged potential bidders to "dig deep" this Christmas.

How to Bid for Literary Immortality

The live auction is now live on the Cheffins website and is set to conclude on Sunday, November 23. Martin Millard from Cheffins acknowledged the unique nature of the lot, making it difficult to estimate its value.

"As this is such a unique and unusual opportunity, it is impossible to put any sort of estimate on what something like this might be worth," he said. "Opening bids will be placed at around £500 but there's no telling how much this could raise in total."

Lord Archer retains full creative control over the character, promising an element of surprise for the winner. "Only I will decide who this character is in the book and how they fit into the plot. They could be a chauffeur, a fast bowler, a farmer, or a fraudster. I can't wait to find out who wins the bidding and how their name will fit into my final novel."

With Archer having sold more than 275 million books worldwide, published in 97 countries and in more than 37 languages, this is a rare chance for a member of the public to become part of his significant literary legacy. The auction also features other high-value lots, including a stay in the Bahamas and Six Nations tickets.
