The historic Wallasey Town Hall is set to be transformed into a hub of Scottish tradition later this month for a special Burns Night supper in aid of charity.
A Night of Scottish Tradition and Ceremony
The Mayor of Wirral will host a grand Burns Night celebration on Friday, January 23. The event, running from 7pm until midnight, promises an immersive experience into the world of Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns. All proceeds will support the Mayor of Wirral's Charity Fund, which benefits volunteer-led organisations across the borough.
An Authentic Scottish Supper
Guests will be treated to a classic culinary journey. The evening begins with a warming Scotch broth, followed by a choice of main course: traditional haggis, chicken, or a vegetarian alternative, each served with the essential accompaniments of neeps and tatties. The meal concludes with the delightful dessert of cranachan, all rounded off with a customary dram of whisky for toasting the Bard.
Music, Dancing and Pageantry
The programme is packed with authentic entertainment to capture the spirit of the occasion. The stirring sound of bagpipes will be provided by the Pipe Major of the Wirral Pipe Band. The Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society will call the dances, inviting everyone to join in the lively tradition of Scottish country dancing. Further pageantry will be added by a formal Guard of Honour.
Attendees are encouraged to dress for the event, with options including traditional Scottish dress, formal wear, or lounge suits. The evening aims to blend warmth, tradition, and community spirit, offering a memorable way to celebrate Scottish culture while raising money for worthy local causes.
Tickets are priced at £40 per person. Payment is available via BACS transfer. Those with specific dietary requirements or seeking further information are asked to contact the mayor's office at mayor@wirral.gov.uk.
