A Birmingham butcher has branded a charity box thief 'scum of the earth' after he stole up to £200 from donations intended for Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Incident Details

The theft occurred at Johnstans Butchers on Kings Heath High Street at approximately 12:50 PM on Wednesday, May 6. The suspect allegedly took nearly six months' worth of charity donations.

Owner Stephen Hems told BirminghamLive that the man had never visited the shop before and acted suspiciously. 'He kept touching the box, and when I turned my back for one second, he put it under his arm and left,' Hems said.

Butcher's Reaction

The furious butcher did not hold back in his condemnation of the thief. 'You have to be a lowlife to steal from any form of charity box. You're scum of the earth, let's be truthful,' he said.

Suspect Description

The suspect is described as a white, middle-aged man of medium height who allegedly spoke with an Irish or traveller accent. The theft was captured on CCTV.
