An evening of culture and cuisine has raised more than £2,000 for Marie Curie, thanks to the generosity of the local community. The fundraising dinner, held at Base Camp Indian Kitchen, welcomed guests from across the region for an evening themed “A Culinary Journey from the Himalayas to the Coast”. The event celebrated the rich flavours and culinary heritage of Nepal and India while raising vital funds for the end-of-life charity.
About Base Camp Indian Kitchen
Base Camp Indian Kitchen was founded with a vision to bring authentic Himalayan and Indian hospitality to the heart of Cardiff. The restaurant takes inspiration from the mountains of Nepal through to the coastal regions of India, combining traditional recipes, regional storytelling, and modern presentation.
Founder and director Ram Sapkota was born and raised in Nepal before moving to the UK to pursue a career in hospitality. After many years working within the restaurant industry across South Wales, Ram opened Base Camp Indian Kitchen to share the food, warmth, and culture that shaped his journey from the Himalayas to Wales.
Award-Winning Recognition
Since opening, the restaurant has received significant recognition within the hospitality industry, including:
- HSBC and FSB Small Business Growth Award 2026
- Best New Restaurant in Wales 2026 by the Oceanic Awards
- Hospitality Excellence Award 2026 by LUXlife
- Restaurant & Bar Award 2026 by LUXlife
The charity evening reflected the restaurant’s ongoing commitment not only to food and hospitality, but also to community engagement and supporting meaningful causes within Cardiff and beyond.
Founder's Reflections
Founder and director Ram Sapkota said: “Coming from Nepal and building a life and business here in Wales has been an emotional and rewarding journey. Seeing our community come together to support Marie Curie through food, generosity, and kindness was incredibly special for all of us at Base Camp.
“Hospitality is a very challenging industry, especially in the current climate, and we chose to take on one of the most challenging locations in Cardiff. We are incredibly proud to say that we have helped bring life back to 29 Park Place through passion, hard work, and the support of our community.
“Stories and encouragement from our local newspapers and media genuinely inspire independent businesses like ours to keep pushing forward, to do more for the community, and to go beyond our limits. Support from local people and local media means a great deal to us.”
The team at Base Camp Indian Kitchen would like to sincerely thank all guests, supporters, organisers, and their hardworking staff who helped make the evening such a memorable success.
