Community Choir for Dementia Wins Vital Funding

Choir for Dementia Celebrates Funding Boost

The Forget-me-not Chorus (FMNC) is celebrating a significant achievement after being awarded funding from the Conwy Valley and North Wales Coast Community Rail Partnership Community Resilience Fund. This grant will directly support the charity's community choir sessions, designed for individuals living with dementia and their loved ones across North Wales.

The Healing Power of Shared Song

Since it began, the Forget-me-not Chorus has harnessed the power of collective singing to reach thousands of people whose lives are touched by dementia. The sessions are led by North Wales musician Manon Llwyd and offer a vital, inclusive space. They provide a shared experience that offers respite from the daily challenges of caring, fostering both physical and emotional well-being.

Beyond the joy of singing, being part of the FMNC family provides mutual support and understanding. It offers carers and those they care for the opportunity to connect with others on a similar journey, sharing experiences and building a robust support network. The initiative is further strengthened by its team of community volunteers, known as 'Singing Buddies', who dedicate their time to encourage interaction and build trusting relationships through song.

Strengthening Communities Through Grant Funding

The Community Resilience Grant 2025 was launched earlier this year in partnership with Avanti West Coast, Transport for Wales, and CVSC. It is an accessible small grants programme specifically designed to strengthen communities located along the Conwy Valley and North Wales Coast rail line. This year, a total of 26 organisations across Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, and Flintshire have benefited from the scheme, supporting a wide and inspiring range of local projects.

This fund is a key part of the Partnership's commitment to promoting local voices, encouraging sustainable travel, and supporting diversity, inclusion, and social development throughout the region.

The FMNC community chorus in Denbighshire & Conwy is open to anyone living with or alongside dementia, and no referral is needed. Sessions are completely free to attend and are held on Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm at The United Church on Tynewydd Road in Rhyl (LL18 3ST).
