Emmaus Mossley Hosts Spring Fayre and Unveils New Shopping Space
On Saturday, March 21, the homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley welcomed a large crowd of local residents, families, friends, and supporters for its action-packed Spring Fayre. The event was a lively celebration that included live music, free activities for all ages, giant puppets, screen printing, and delicious food. A key highlight was the official launch of the charity's brand-new Mezzanine shopping space, which has been transformed over recent months to offer bargains, most priced at £5 or less.
A Fun-Filled Day for the Community
The Spring Fayre provided a joyful atmosphere, with perfect weather adding to the festivities. Attendees enjoyed a variety of free activities such as hook-a-duck, splat the rat, a coconut shy, tombola, screen printing, and stocks. Marek, a resident at Emmaus Mossley, shared his excitement: "Our Spring Fayre was a very fun and nice day! The weather was perfect – it was a very good atmosphere and my highlight was seeing everyone happy."
Transforming Lives Through Support
Emmaus Mossley, based at Longlands Mill in Tameside, empowers people to overcome homelessness permanently. The charity provides a stable home and tailored support to help residents build confidence, self-esteem, skills, and work experience. Hazel Hodkinson, retail manager at Emmaus Mossley, expressed gratitude: "Our Emmaus Spring Fayre was such a lovely day, made all the more enjoyable by the people who attended and the nice March sunshine. We are very grateful to everyone who joined us, took part in the activities, and supported us on the day."
Team Effort and Future Events
The success of the Spring Fayre and the Mezzanine transformation was a result of collaboration among companions, volunteers, staff, and trustees. All funds raised will go towards sustaining the charity and its support for up to 26 residents at any time. Looking ahead, Emmaus Mossley's next event, After Shift Thrift, is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, May 7. This will feature an open discussion hosted by Manchester-based collective Future Fashion Fair and a screen printing workshop run by Notorious.
