Former Addict Who Blew £30,000 in Six Weeks Now Dines with Sainsbury's Bosses
Timon Robin, a former drug addict who was once banned from every Sainsbury's branch in Britain for shoplifting, has transformed his life with the support of a Birmingham-based charity. Originally from Henley-in-Arden in Warwickshire, Timon described his past as 'chaotic,' stating he had to hit rock bottom before beginning his recovery journey.
From Rock Bottom to Remarkable Recovery
During his 20-year battle with addiction, Timon squandered a £30,000 inheritance in just six weeks on what he calls 'junk and drugs.' He reached a critical turning point after discovering his friend dead from a heroin overdose, which made him realise he needed urgent help or face a similar fate. 'I was at death's door and this was the last option,' Timon said. 'Make it work or I knew I was going to die.'
He sought assistance from Betel UK, a Christian charity that provides residential rehabilitation for people struggling with long-term addiction and homelessness at its centre, Anchor Point in Aston. This decision marked the beginning of his path to recovery, allowing him to escape the grips of addiction that had dominated his life for decades.
A New Life and Professional Success
After successfully overcoming his addiction, Timon not only rebuilt his personal life but also embarked on a professional career with Betel UK. He now works in a public relations role for the charity, helping others who are enslaved by addiction. In a striking contrast to his past, Timon has even dined with the Sainsbury's board of directors, showcasing his incredible turnaround from a shoplifter banned from their stores to a respected individual engaging with corporate leaders.
'Now I get to help people enslaved by an addiction and I'm now happily married with a nice place to live,' Timon added, highlighting the positive changes in his life. His story serves as an inspiring example of how charity support and personal determination can lead to profound transformation, offering hope to those facing similar struggles in the community.
