In a significant act of community support, volunteers from the Rapid Relief Team UK (RRT) have delivered essential food supplies to a vital local service in Cheshire. The charity, which is comprised of volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, provided 20 food boxes, equivalent to 240 meals, to the Poynton Community Larder.
Addressing a National Crisis at a Local Level
This timely donation comes as the Trussell Trust reports a stark reality: one in six households across the UK is now experiencing food insecurity. The Poynton Community Larder operates as a crucial local resource, offering food and hygiene products at a significantly reduced cost to those who need additional help with their weekly shopping. The not-for-profit service has become an indispensable lifeline for many people within the area.
The RRT was delighted to offer its support, aiming to help lift spirits during the challenging festive and New Year period. Each food box was curated with care and compassion, containing a wide selection of non-perishable goods to ensure nutritional value and longevity.
A Warm Welcome for Vital Supplies
The donation was met with immense gratitude. A representative from Poynton Community Larder confirmed the immediate impact, stating: "All 20 food boxes were given out at our recent Larder Day. They were certainly well received! Thanks again for the Rapid Relief Team and the local volunteers' amazing generosity to the local community."
Amos Wilkinson, the RRT's local team leader, emphasised the importance of the Larder's work. "They are a crucial community hub that does so much to support so many families in the local area," he said. "We were delighted to help them and know they will go towards helping those who need them most."
A Legacy of Support in the Region
This initiative is part of a broader, long-term commitment from the RRT in the region. For many years, the charity and its team of dedicated local volunteers have provided vital support across East Cheshire and Manchester. Their work extends beyond food banks, often assisting emergency services and other charitable organisations.
Last year alone, the team's efforts included serving 500 meals over three days at Sedgley Park Police Station in support of Greater Manchester Police officers following a synagogue attack. Furthermore, volunteers cooked and served another 500 meals to the public during community open days at Wilmslow and Offerton Fire Stations.
Amos Wilkinson reinforced the group's ongoing mission: "Together with volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church and the RRT, we are committed to supporting our local communities. This is a way in which we can make a positive difference to the lives of children and families in need within Poynton and East Cheshire."
