A dog who was subjected to a brutal attack by his previous owner is now looking for a new home and a fresh start. One-year-old Chopper, a Cane Corso cross Great Dane, was rescued in November last year after CCTV footage captured his owner hitting and kicking him inside a public lift in Birmingham.
The RSPCA launched an investigation following the release of the footage, and Chopper was promptly removed from his owner and taken into the charity’s care. After the case concluded in court earlier this year, the charity is now seeking a loving new home for the dog.
Chopper's Journey to Recovery
Cat Clements from the RSPCA Coventry & District, which has been caring for Chopper, said: “Chopper is a big, bouncy boy who is young, energetic, and looking for a fresh start where he can enjoy life to the full. He is a sweet boy who has come such a long way since he first arrived with us when he was initially very nervous.
“But he soon learned that he could trust us, thanks to lots of yummy treats. Everyday things spooked him but now he’s gaining confidence day by day and, while he can still find new experiences daunting, he is also showing his true character as a cheeky and outgoing chap.”
Thriving in Foster Care
Chopper is currently being cared for by one of the rescue centre’s fosterers and is ‘thriving’ in a home environment. RSPCA Inspector Ben Jones, who investigated his case, said: “It is so wonderful seeing Chopper looking happy, relaxed and enjoying life.
“His foster family said he loves to nap on the sofa and enjoys socialising with other dogs, which is really lovely to hear. Despite everything he’s been through, he’s a big softie with a heart of gold who just wants to enjoy life, and he’ll make the right family a truly wonderful pet.”
Adoption Requirements
Chopper could live with another dog and with children aged over eight.
