Two men have been arrested after a violent brawl broke out inside a David Lloyd gym in Merseyside, an incident police have described as 'shocking'. Officers were called to the gym on the Knowsley Industrial Estate on Arbour Lane at around 6.10pm on Monday, April 27, following reports of a fight involving two men.
Arrests Made
A 46-year-old man from Brighton-le-Sands and a 53-year-old man from Netherley were both arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray. They have been taken to police stations for questioning. Footage circulating online appears to show the two men fighting inside what is believed to be the male changing room.
Witness Accounts
A witness told the Liverpool Echo that staff were called over the tannoy to the men's changing room after the altercation began. One clip shared on social media shows a man being escorted away by police after a patrol car arrived at the premises.
Police Statement
Detective Inspector Edward Barr condemned the incident, noting that children were present in the gym at the time. 'This would have been a shocking incident to witness, carried out in full view of members of the public nearby, including children,' he said. 'We are gathering all available evidence and want to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or has since received information.'
He urged the public not to comment on social media about the incident but to contact Merseyside Police directly. 'Two men are in custody and we are working hard to establish the timeline of this incident. We are aware of social media video of the incident and I would urge people with information not to comment on such channels, but come into us directly so as not to hinder the investigation.'
