Scarborough runners raise £2,500 for local charity

The scenic coastline of Scarborough was a sea of determined runners as the highly anticipated McCain Yorkshire Coast Festival returned for another spectacular year. For the first time in 2025, the event was delivered by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All in partnership with the long-standing organisers, Scarborough Athletic Club.

More than just a race, the festival was a powerful display of community spirit, with thousands of participants lacing up their trainers to raise vital funds for a crucial local cause. The collective effort resulted in a significant donation to The Rainbow Centre, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals in Scarborough who are homeless, vulnerable, or facing a crisis.

A Day of Running and Community Spirit

The event catered to runners of all ages and abilities, featuring a 10K, a 5K, and a Fun Run. Participants were treated to one of the region's most breathtaking routes, which wound its way along the stunning coastline. The course took runners past iconic local landmarks, including the historic Scarborough Castle and the beautiful North Bay Beach, before culminating at the vibrant Scarborough Spa.

From start to finish, the atmosphere was electric. The sound of cheering crowds and the buzz of excitement at the finish line provided a constant source of motivation. Loved ones gathered to celebrate as runners pushed through the final stretch, with many achieving new personal bests on the memorable day.

Presenting the Cheque: A Boost for Vital Services

The true triumph of the day was the incredible fundraising achievement. Run For All has confirmed that a grand total of £2,500 raised during the festival will be donated to The Rainbow Centre. This generous contribution continues the event's longstanding support for the charity and will directly fund its essential services within the community.

James Howard, fundraising officer at the Rainbow Centre, expressed his profound gratitude: "Everyone at the Rainbow Centre would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed. This will go a long way to helping us to continue working closely within our community, helping those who need help the most."

The Rainbow Centre is a lifeline for many, offering an open door, compassion, and support to anyone facing difficulties. Each year, the charity makes approximately 12,500 critical interventions, providing assistance to vulnerable people during their most challenging times.

Looking Ahead to 2026

The success of the 2025 festival has set a positive precedent for the future. Alice Liley, partnerships manager at Run For All, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to continue the event’s support of The Rainbow Centre this year and hope that the donation will support the vital work that they do. Thank you again to everyone who took part and helped to create an incredible day."

By bringing together running clubs, schools, volunteers, and countless participants, the McCain Yorkshire Coast Festival truly showcased the best of Scarborough. The event is confirmed to return in 2026, promising another outstanding occasion of sport, community, and charitable giving.
