Students raise £3,000 for multiple causes
Pupils at St John Bosco Arts College in Croxteth have raised £3,000 for local, national and international charities over the last academic year. They took on a series of fundraising events, awareness campaigns and donation drives, with each year group selecting a specific charity to champion while the whole school community supported causes across Liverpool and beyond.
Whole-school events generate significant donations
Whole-school events included a Macmillan Coffee Morning that raised £365, a harvest collection that led to more than 150 food and toiletry donations for the Norris Green North Liverpool Foodbank, and support for Nugent's Toy Appeal. The annual Christmas fayre generated £654, which was split between Mary's Meals, VIDES UK, and Woodlands Hospice. The school also supported awareness campaigns such as Children's Mental Health Week and World Down Syndrome Day with bake sales and ribbon fundraising, raising a total of £979 distributed to Hello Yellow/YoungMinds and Down Syndrome UK.
Headteacher praises community spirit
Headteacher Darren Gidman said: “I am extremely proud of our school community and all it has achieved over the past year to raise awareness and funds for such important causes. It has been fantastic to witness students’ empathy, sense of social responsibility and Catholic values in action.”
Year group initiatives target specific charities
Year 7's charity of choice for 2025/26 was Zoe's Place, which provides specialist care to babies and children in Liverpool with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. They raised awareness through sponsored walks, bake sales and tutor group collections. Year 8 students raised £364 for the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development by collecting donations at school productions and completing a sponsored water walk during physical education lessons to experience challenges faced by communities without clean water. Year 9 students supported Mary's Meals, raising £473 by selling handmade gifts and organizing a bake sale. Year 10 students made gifts and treats for the Christmas fayre to support VIDES UK, raising £160. Year 11s organised and managed the school's harvest foodbank drive, while sixth formers collected essential hygiene products for International Women's Day and raised £151 for Woodlands Hospice by running gift stalls at the Christmas fayre.
Individual student fundraising efforts
In addition to group initiatives, individual students raised funds for causes close to their hearts. Heidi in Year 11 raised £300 for the 26th World Scout Jamboree in Poland next year, and Evie in Year 8 cut 29 inches of her hair to donate to The Little Princess Trust.
