Veterans' Sleep Out at Stonehenge Aims to Raise £45k for Homeless
Stonehenge Sleep Out to Combat Veterans' Homelessness

In a powerful act of solidarity, a homelessness charity is staging the first-ever public sleep out at the iconic ancient monument of Stonehenge. The event, organised by ALABARÉ, aims to raise a significant £45,000 to help break the devastating cycle of veterans' homelessness in the UK.

A Night of Solidarity at an Ancient Site

Taking place on the night of Friday, November 14, the BIG Sleep Stonehenge will see approximately 200 participants brave the elements. Among them is Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Andrew Tuggey CBE DL, an ambassador for the cause in Wales. Lt Col Tuggey originally aimed to raise £10,000 but has already smashed that target, gathering more than £18,000 in sponsorships to support the charity's crucial work.

He expressed his motivation, stating that the high number of homeless ex-service personnel is an indictment on society. "The BIG Sleep at Stonehenge will be a small act of compassion and solidarity," he said. "After what may be an uncomfortable, cold, and maybe wet night, we shall return to our warm homes."

More Than Just Shelter: Rebuilding Lives

ALABARÉ's mission extends far beyond providing a roof. The charity operates 30 Homes for Veterans across Wales and the South West of England. These are not merely hostels but supported living environments for former military personnel at a critical point in their lives. The organisation offers tailored support in employment, training, and education to empower veterans, rebuild their lives, and live independently.

James Tomlinson, Director of Strategic Communications at ALABARÉ, praised the fundraisers. "The efforts of people like him make all the difference in helping to spread the word of what ALABARÉ does and how we’re providing homes, restoring hearts, and empowering minds," he commented.
