A Night of Sparkle and Generosity

On Friday, October 24, seven brave amateur dancers partnered with professional performers to compete for the coveted Glitter Ball Trophy in the hospice's first-ever dance extravaganza. The event generated an impressive more than £46,000 for Saint Francis Hospice's compassionate palliative and end of life care services.

Charlotte Winder, community and events manager at Saint Francis Hospice, expressed her gratitude: "We are so proud of our dancers and their professional partners – they were exceptional. Over the past three months, they trained tirelessly to deliver a show full of entertainment and sparkle."

Unexpected Performances and Judging Panel

The evening began with a surprise as hospice staff and volunteers, including nurses and team members, took to the floor for an unexpected opening dance routine that delighted the audience.

Andy Furneaux from the fundraising team proved to be a phenomenal host, channelling the energy and glamour of Strictly Come Dancing throughout the night. His infectious enthusiasm inspired generous donations from the captivated audience.

The competition was judged by a distinguished panel including CEO Grazina Berry alongside dance professionals Rita Sinclair, Sam Jeffery, and Ryan Curtis-Johnson.

Crowning the Champions

After an evening of breathtaking performances, Mary and her professional partner Frankie were crowned the winners, proudly taking home the Glitter Ball Trophy.

Mary shared her excitement: "What a night! What an experience! I am so full of love and gratitude for the privilege to be able to take part in this event and raise money and awareness for Saint Francis Hospice. Frankie is the most incredible teacher and her choreography was amazing."

Frankie revealed her personal connection to the hospice: "The hospice was so supportive and caring when my granddad was there, and it was the ideal chance to give something back. Mary was my perfect pairing and worked hard on her fundraising as well as her dancing."

The evening concluded on a triumphant note with the entire audience on their feet, dancing, cheering and celebrating as all performers returned to the floor for one final, joyful moment.
