Hospital Staff Summit Welsh Peaks, Raising £6,390 for Children's Ward
Team raises £6,390 for Glangwili's children's ward in 24-hour challenge

A dedicated team of fundraisers has successfully completed a gruelling 24-hour mountain challenge, raising a significant sum for a vital hospital children's ward in West Wales.

Conquering the Welsh Three Peaks for Charity

The Welsh Tri Summit Challenge saw participants from the Estates Department at Glangwili Hospital, alongside colleagues from Wales Roofing Solutions, tackle the three highest peaks in Wales. Their mission was to climb Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in the north, Cadair Idris in mid-Wales, and Pen y Fan in the south, all within a single day.

Undertaken in September, the formidable physical endeavour had a clear and heartfelt goal: to generate funds for the Cilgerran Children's Ward at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen. The money raised is designated to support infants, children, and young people from Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire who are battling short-term illness, undergoing ongoing treatment, or recovering from surgery.

A Remarkable Total for Young Patients

The team's extraordinary efforts culminated in a fantastic fundraising total of £6,390. This impressive amount was bolstered by Wales Roofing Solutions, which matched the funds raised through the challenge itself.

Paul Hill, the Estates Manager at Glangwili Hospital, reflected on the difficult but rewarding experience. "We believe that every child deserves the best possible care and experience when they are ill, and we want to give something back to a team that gives so much every day," he said. "We are extremely grateful to Wales Roofing Solutions for joining us on the challenge and matching the money raised."

Bethan Parry, representing Wales Roofing Solutions, described participation as an honour. "From Snowdon to Cadair Idris to Pen y Fan, we climbed with one aim – to support the amazing Cilgerran Children's Ward," she stated. "Raising over £6,000 was incredible, especially knowing that it will help make a meaningful difference to the young patients and families who need it most."

Creating a Positive Environment for Care

The generous donation will have a direct impact on the ward's environment and the experience of its young patients. Senior nursing manager for acute paediatrics, Bethan Osmundsen, expressed profound gratitude for the contribution.

"Your kindness has a direct and lasting impact on the babies, children and young people in our care, improving their comfort, well-being and overall patient experience," she explained. "Your support helps us create a more positive, child-friendly environment where young patients and their families feel safe, supported, and cared for."

The funds will be channelled through Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of the local health board. The charity supports NHS patients and staff across the region by funding projects, equipment, and services that go beyond core NHS provision.
