The Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) has hailed its first-ever fundraising ball a resounding success, with the event generating a spectacular £52,649 to support its vital operations. The 'A Reyt Good Do – Flat Cap and Feathers Ball' was a cornerstone of the charity's 25th-anniversary celebrations, bringing together over 250 supporters for a night of true Yorkshire spirit.
A Night of Yorkshire Flair and Generosity
Held last month at the Aspire venue in Leeds City Centre, the ball welcomed patrons including YAA's own Sir Geoffrey Boycott. Guests immersed themselves in the themed evening, enjoying a sparkling reception and a fine-dining three-course meal. The entertainment lineup featured a standout set from Yorkshire comedian Steff Todd, known for her 'Yorkshire Kardashians' sketches, alongside live music and the crowd-pleasing game of Heads and Tails, which alone raised nearly £2,000.
Fundraising Fuelled by Exclusive Auctions and Community Spirit
The fundraising momentum was supercharged by a lively auction expertly led by Derek Mathewson of Bangers and Cash. Attendees bid generously on unique lots, such as a racehorse owner experience, exclusive brewery tours, and a behind-the-scenes opportunity with Derek during filming for the next series of his show. A silent auction and raffle provided further avenues for support.
Kate James, Event Coordinator at YAA, reflected on the evening's success: "Planning our first ever fundraising ball was both exciting and a real learning curve, so to see it all come together on the night was incredibly rewarding. The atmosphere continued on the dancefloor right through to 1am!"
Celebrating 25 Years and Looking to the Future
The evening included a poignant speech from the charity’s Chairman, Mike Harrop, who reflected on a quarter-century of saving lives across the region. Compere Dan Smith kept energy levels high, sharing inspiring patient stories that underscored the impact of every donation.
Kerry Dwyer, Director of Public Fundraising at YAA, stated: "Generating over £52,000 in just one night is an extraordinary achievement and a real reflection of the generosity and community spirit that surrounds Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Every pound will help us continue delivering urgent, life-saving care."
The event was made possible with the support of main sponsors Sovereign Health Care, RBC Brewin Dolphin and Rosemont Pharmaceuticals. As YAA moves beyond its milestone year, it remains committed to working with the people of Yorkshire to secure the future of its critical, life-saving service.
