A Birmingham evening madrasa is set to close due to financial difficulties, but the main school attached to it remains in operation. Jami'ah Khadijatul Kubra, located in the Small Heath area of Birmingham, has raised only £7,284 of its £93,000 funding target, prompting concerns about its future.
Main School Continues
The madrasa is affiliated with Hazrat Khadijatul Kubra Girls School, which was founded in 2005 and began admitting students in 2010. The school provides Islamic education to girls in Birmingham and, according to its latest Ofsted report published in March 2024, has been rated as 'good'. The school has confirmed to the Express & Star that it is not closing.
A spokesperson for the school clarified: "The school is not closing. It’s just the evening madrasa that is." The madrasa, also known as The Institute of Khadija the Great, has been struggling financially, as highlighted on its JustGiving page.
Appeal for Donations
In a statement on its fundraising page, the institution wrote: "We are reaching out to you in this critical moment. Your donation, no matter how small, can help keep the doors open, support our students, and preserve this invaluable institution for generations to come." The appeal added: "Please do not let it come to an end - save your local madrasah."
The closure affects only the evening classes, not the main school, which continues to operate and serve its students. The school has urged the community to support the madrasa to prevent its closure.
