Brentwood's Strawberry Fair and parkrun Celebrate Community Spirit
Brentwood Strawberry Fair and parkrun 500th Event

Last week's political upheaval, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer stepping down and Andy Burnham MP taking over, overshadowed two outstanding local events in Brentwood that showcased the community's vibrancy.

Strawberry Fair Triumph

Brentwood's Strawberry Fair at King George's Playing Field was a resounding success, attracting thousands of visitors for a day of entertainment and activities. Performances from local dance schools and musicians, including Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, delighted the crowd. Sporting activities for all ages were available, and local groups such as Brentwood's Rotary Club, Climate Change Action Group, businesses, pubs, and brewers promoted their campaigns and products.

500th parkrun Celebration

Last weekend, the Brentwood parkrun celebrated its 500th event. Known as 'the Beast of Brentwood' due to a challenging hill at the end of the course in South Weald Country Park, the event highlighted the dedication of volunteers and participants. The Brentwood Imperial Youth Band played as runners started, and the Mayor of Brentwood joined Alex Burghart MP for the countdown. Burghart praised the event, stating, "It is an exceptional local event - great for health, community and enjoying our magnificent Essex countryside."

Volunteer Appreciation

Burghart emphasized the importance of volunteers: "We are fortunate in Brentwood to have so many volunteers who give up their time and skills every week to enable parkrunners to take part and finish the course." He encouraged residents to join the run at 9 am on Saturdays. The Brentwood Gazette covers areas including Billericay, Brentwood, Hutton, Shenfield, and Wickford in Essex.
