A community-led campaign is underway to transform the much-loved play area at Church Lane Gardens in Leicester, with local residents already raising thousands of pounds towards a major upgrade.
Project Details
The project, led by the Friends of Church Lane Gardens group in partnership with Leicester City Council, aims to create a safer, more inclusive and engaging space for children and families. Planned improvements include:
- Upgrading the existing multi-play unit
- Installing a new four-way seesaw
- Adding a double toddler swing
- Providing an accessible picnic bench
- Improving seating and usability of the space
- Installing a wheelchair-accessible roundabout
Despite detailed plans already drawn up by the council, funding is not currently available, prompting residents to take action themselves.
Community Support
Since launching, the campaign has already raised £3,300 with strong support from local families, Knighton Ward councillors and Leicester South MP, Shockat Adam.
Sofie Dadge, chair of 'Church Lane Gardens', said: "This space means so much to so many families. We've had parents, grandparents and children all telling us how important it is, but also how much it needs improving.
"We're determined to make that happen together as a community."
The group is now calling on local businesses, organisations and residents to support the campaign through donations, fundraising ideas, or partnerships.
