Bilston Man Faces Court Over 2008 Tipton Taxi Driver Shooting

A 76-year-old man from Bilston has appeared in court, charged with the murder of a taxi driver in Tipton nearly two decades ago. David Harrison is accused of fatally shooting Harun Khan on March 3, 2008, outside Mr Khan's home on Tudor Street in Tipton.

Details of the 2008 Incident

The incident occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. when Mr Khan, a 39-year-old father of four, was shot. He was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The case has remained under investigation for almost twenty years before charges were brought forward.

Additional Charges from 2007

In addition to the murder charge, Harrison faces charges related to a separate shooting incident in Dudley on December 14, 2007. He is charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm for the shooting of a 27-year-old man in Farthings Lane, Dudley. Harrison also faces two counts of possessing a firearm in connection with these events.

Court Proceedings and Trial Date

Harrison, who is currently on remand at HMP Frankland in County Durham, did not appear via video link for a hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday, March 6. Judge Michael Chambers KC adjourned the case and set a preliminary trial date for November 16, with the trial expected to last three weeks.

Regarding Harrison's absence, Judge Chambers stated, "The simple course is that a not guilty plea be entered but given the seriousness of the case I think I ought to give the defence an opportunity to try and see Mr Harrison." The case remains adjourned, and Harrison stays in custody. A further hearing is scheduled for April 10.

Police charged Harrison last December, marking a significant development in a case that has spanned almost two decades. The community and authorities continue to seek justice for the victims involved in these violent incidents.
