Elderly Woman, 95, Bound and Threatened in Disturbing Salford Robbery Attempt
A 95-year-old woman was subjected to a vile and terrifying ordeal in her own home in Salford, after a man gained entry by offering to clean her windows before tying her up and demanding money.
Details of the Shocking Incident
Greater Manchester Police were called to an address on Belcroft Drive in Little Hulton at approximately 11am on Tuesday, January 27th. The incident unfolded when a man, believed to be in his 60s or early 70s, approached the elderly resident under the pretence of providing window cleaning services.
Once inside the property, the suspect tied the woman's hands together and threatened her, demanding she hand over cash and her purse. The situation was thankfully interrupted when friends of the victim arrived at the house, confronted the man, and immediately alerted the police, causing the assailant to flee the scene.
Police Description and Ongoing Investigation
Detectives have released a detailed description of the suspect in a bid to track him down. He is described as:
- A white male, possibly aged between 60 and 70 years old.
- He had short, mousy brown hair combed back, and wore glasses.
- He was clean-shaven, appeared well-kempt, and was wearing a dark raincoat jacket, jeans, and dark-coloured shoes.
No arrests have been made at this time, but officers from GMP's Salford district are conducting extensive enquiries. Detective Inspector Paul Davies stated, "This was a vile incident in which a woman was tied up and threatened in an address, and we are determined to locate the man responsible."

DI Davies praised the swift actions of the victim's friend, saying, "Thankfully, this was not a more serious situation and we commend the brave actions of the lady's friend who confronted the man and called officers."
